Simple ASL Flash Cards Interview

Have you ever tried to learn a new language? It can be pretty hard. One resource to use would be flash cards! In this article we will reviewing "Barron's 500 Flash Cards of American Sign Language" available for purchase on Amazon.com (see link below). In order to get a proper prospective of this product, we did an interview with Miranda Waters, who has been using the flash cards to learn ASL. The interview is below. Enjoy!

SPSL: How long have you been using Barron's 500 Flash Cards?

MW: I have been using the flash cards for about 4 months.

SPSL: What do you like most about the cards?

MW: They make it easy to test yourself on what signs you know because the word are on one side and the actual sign is on the other.

Another thing I really like about the cards is that they are easy to take with you. They fit in your bag or next to you on a long car ride.

SPSL: What do you dislike most about Barron's 500 Flash Cards?

MW: The thing I dislike most about the cards is that some of the signs are hard to figure out because of the way they are depicted on the cards.

SPSL: How do you find out about the product?

MW: I actually received them as a birthday present. They just showed up on my doorstep one day.

SPSL: Would you recommend Barron's 500 Flash Cards to anyone?

MW: Of course. I think they are a great tool for beginners or people that need conversational signs.

SPSL: Have you been able to use the knowledge you've gained from the product? Explain.

MW: I have been able to use the signs that I learned from the cards. There was a hard of hearing man that I met. He wanted to know about a dinner that my church's youth group was putting on, because of the cards I was able to explain all the details to him in a way he could understand easily.

SPSL: What is one word that you've had trouble remembering?

MW: The toughest sign I have come against would be "analyzed". The sign is a three part sign and I can never remember the second step.

SPSL: What is the easiest word to remember?

MW: The easiest word for me to remember is "but". It's a word that I say often and the sign is simple. The little words are always the simplest to learn in my opinion.

SPSL" How does the product compare to other methods of learning ASL?

MW: In some aspects it's easier because I'm able to pick and choose what words and when to learn them, however not being able to see someone do the signs or use them in a full sentence is a downside.

SPSL: On a scale of 1-10 how would you rate Barron's 500 Flash Cards?

MW: I would rate it an 8. There are some aspects of the cards I would change, but for someone who doesn't have the money to enroll in classes or the time to sit and listen to a lecture, it is a great alternative.

Overall we would highly recommend Barron's 500 Flash Cards as a way to learn ASL, and you can also pair it with this dictionary to help increase your knowledge.

I hope you've enjoyed reading and learning about this product. Comment below if you've used this product, and whether you like it or not!

As always, have a blessed day.
